Hi Laura,

I had such a fun weekend with my Ruben kids, I thought I'd share.  I had entered three of them in an AKC herding trial, and ran each of the three once per day over three days.  A total of 9 gorgeous runs!  They were so fabulous, we had such a blast!  I have owned some very talented herding collies in the past, but I never had any that were better than these pups.  The judges were just gushing, the spectators were blown away  . . . gosh, these are nice puppies!  So I have three new AKC "PT" herding titles.  (Two of the pups also have 2 legs each toward their AKC "RN" rally novice title.)  AKC rules specify that dogs can't be entered in a herding trial unless they are at least 9 months old.  Cool that these pups did it before ten months of age.

In total, 7 of the puppies from the Ruben x Hildi litter are in performance homes . . . I'm guessing at least 5 of them will have AKC performance titles by the end of this year, with other pups to follow next year with agility titles.  So, if Ruben doesn't already have his ROM-P title, he will by the end of 2009, just from the pups in this one litter.

Wish I had some good herding pix . . . but I was too busy managing my own runs to think about arranging for it.  Plus, it was cold and drizzling here, not great conditions for photos.  There was a spectator who got a few shots, though, and was nice enough to share them with me.

Update - Champion Special Sharp-Shooter, n/e

"Pistol" was named for his great-great grandfather Ch.North Country Sure Shot of whom he is so reminiscent. He is the first champion for his sire ZZ and a littermate to our specialty-winning Ch.Special Fleur-de-Lis. He finished quickly as a puppy with 4 majors. I was so impressed with his intelligence, temperment and working drive that  I donated him to NEADS, of Princeton, MA, the country's oldest assistance and hearing dog training school.  The first leg of his training included a stint at the local prison to brush up on his obedience skills. While there, his name was changed to the more elegant "Bristol" as having a big black dog in prison named Pistol was a no-no. Bristol passed his OFA preliminary and was neutered. He spent 3 months in Maine learning the basics of assistance dog training which he passed with flying colors and has finished his intense training at the NEADS Princeton facility.

Bristol graduates October 29th!

Bristol was matched with a school in Wisconsin where he is helping children with emotional and behavioral problems.
